U.S. citizens do not need a visa to visit Croatia. Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, so you can stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period across all Schengen countries combined.
Passport: Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and be valid for at least three months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen Area.
EU Entry/Exit System (EES): Since April 10, 2026, passport stamps have been replaced by the EU’s digital Entry/Exit System. On your first arrival, border officers will scan your passport and take your fingerprints and a facial photo. No advance application is needed, but allow extra time at the border. If your trip includes Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina, you will be checked again when you re-enter Croatia.
ETIAS: The EU’s new travel authorization, ETIAS, is not yet in operation, and you do not need it to travel to Croatia right now. No launch date has been announced. When it does start, apply only through the official EU website.

The easiest way to reach Croatia from the U.S. is a seasonal nonstop flight. United Airlines flies nonstop from Newark (EWR) to Dubrovnik (DBV) in summer. In 2026 it also added nonstop flights from Newark to Split (SPU). Check United’s schedule for your travel dates.
From other U.S. cities, most travelers fly with one stop via a major European hub such as Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, London or Istanbul. From there, connecting flights reach Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb.
